Since September 2020, the Travel Advisory for Egypt issued by the US Department of State  (link to Egypt Travel Advisory (state.gov) is at Level 3 (Reconsider Travel). This advisory is mainly due to terrorism concerns and the limited ability to assist dual national U.S.-Egyptian citizens. Travelers are advised not to visit the following locations in Egypt:

• The Sinai Peninsula (except for air travel to Sharm El-Sheikh).
• The Western Desert.
• Egyptian border areas.

For Jordan, the current advisory is at Level 2 (https://travel.state.gov/content/travel/en/traveladvisories/traveladvisories/jordan-travel-advisory.html ) (Exercise Increased Caution), primarily due to terrorism. Travelers are advised to avoid areas such as:

• Within 3.5 km of the Jordanian border with Syria and east of Ruwayshid towards the Iraqi border.
• Designated Syrian refugee camps.
• Zarqa, Rusayfah, and the Baqa’a neighborhood of Ayn Basha.
• Reconsider travel to Ma'an City and some areas of Ma'an Governorate.
